The name “Lishui” originates from Luomeng Gorge. Lishui has two water gorges—Shimen Gorge and Shuikou Gorge (also known as Luomeng Gorge). Lishui River flows southeast through Shuikou Village, crossing Luomeng Gorge before joining the Pearl River. North of Luomeng Gorge, the water is known as "Outer Water," while south of it, it's called "Inner Water" (Lishui).

Chishan Village in Lishui Town is a historic settlement famed for its 300-year-old "fire leaping" tradition. With a rich cultural legacy and a beautifully preserved ecological environment, the village boasts unique ancient architecture and abundant intangible cultural heritage, making it one of Foshan’s best-preserved ancient villages.
By integrating "Beautiful Courtyard" initiatives with its historical architecture and traditions, Chishan Village has created a culturally vibrant space combining "fields, parks, and homes." This includes activities such as the Little Flames Reading Club, children’s educational programs, and small tour guide training, ensuring that the village’s "fire culture" is preserved and shared with future generations. Visitors can enjoy a unique experience of intangible heritage while exploring this ancient village’s charm.

Lotus Pond Square
Located in Chishan Park, Lotus Pond Square underwent an extensive upgrade in 2017 as part of the "Beautiful and Civilized Villages" initiative. It has since become a popular leisure spot for residents. Visitors can enjoy the serene beauty of blooming lotuses, evoking the poetic imagery of "Endless emerald lotus leaves stretch to the horizon; crimson lotus blossoms glow in the sunlight."

Shady Green Road (green and beautiful landmark)
This picturesque road is lined with lush greenery, including a century-old banyan tree. Chishan Village has utilized this shaded path to host firelight markets and entrepreneurship events, turning its beautiful courtyards into an economic asset. The village’s fire-jumping cultural activities have become a signature brand, drawing tourists eager to experience its unique charm.

Fire-Jumping Square
Chishan’s Lantern Festival tradition of fire-jumping activity dates back over 300 years. In 2018, this vibrant practice was recognized as a city-level intangible cultural heritage and one of the "Outstanding Lingnan Folk Customs." The square serves as the hub for educational activities centered around this tradition, and in May 2024, it was designated a learning base for primary and middle school students in Nanhai District.

Chishan People’s Hall
Spanning 439.20 square meters, this Soviet-style building recently underwent a complete restoration. Since July 2024, it has hosted "Beautiful Courtyard" activities, involving youth visits, online contests, and community initiatives. Local residents transformed 28 courtyards into beautiful gardens, adding to the village’s charm.

"Four Mini-Gardens" and Grassland Garden
Chishan’s ancient stone-paved alleys are brought to life through its "Flowering Chishan" project, launched in 2019. A women-led volunteer team created the Grassland Garden and "Four Mini-Gardens," encouraging residents to beautify their surroundings. This initiative brings together villagers, new residents, women, youth, and volunteers to foster a clean, vibrant, and community-oriented environment.

Chishan Village Museum
The museum offers a deep dive into Chishan’s origins and its famed "fire culture." It also supports the training of young guides, preparing the next generation to carry forward the village’s legacy. During summer vacations, workshops for young "mini-guides" ensure the continued transmission of Chishan’s traditions.

Tianfu Li Clan Ancestral Hall (Family Heritage Museum)
At the heart of this family heritage museum are the words "Continue the Legacy, Illuminate Chishan," reflecting the hope that residents will uphold the virtues recorded in the "Li Clan Genealogy." The hall doubles as a visitor center and a hub for modern community practices, emphasizing the importance of cultural heritage in Chishan’s development.

Take a break this weekend and embark on a learning journey in Lishui!
Experience the charm of Chishan’s ancient culture firsthand.
